2020 Afrobeats to vibe to this weekend.
Summer music is danceable music!
Though the world is still partially on covid-19 lockdown , the music industry
home and abroad is amongst those 'essential' industries, keeping mind, body,
and soul sane while we try to survive the year.
For people who love music, here's a playlist of songs other than Don't rush, Bop Daddy and Duduke that definitely caught
attention so far on the Nigerian airwaves in 2020 ;)
1. Wonderful by Burna Boy.
Even though he made use of Mayokun (Mayor of Lagos') catchphrase 'Of lele',
the harmony of this song brings melody to the ears. The video was awesome. The
baboon was ingenious and the storyline was relatable to the song. Burna fans
must be excited for this one. And non- Burna fans can appreciate this song as
well.
2. You by Omah Lay
When a fine boy sings a love song, there has to be a fine girl in the
video....abi? Video quality and storyline was topnotch. Definitely a vibe for
Instagram videos and TikTok challenges. For a weekend vibe? Yes please.
3. Mi Casa Su Casa by Korede Bello
Another fine boy. Fashion lovers will enjoy this video as Korede is a stylish
eyecandy for the ladies, from jackets to colourful prints, and cute dogs.
You'll just know it's a song you could maybe... Just maybe, keep on
repeat.
4. Dangerous love by Tiwa Savage
The Queen of afrobeats strikes the airwaves with this kinda spooky, kinda
romantic tune. Not sure what to make of the video, but it sure catches
attention.
5. Betty Butter by Mayokun ft Davido.
This song is catchy. A satirical number filled with relatable, rhyming lines
from Davido (....loving father to my son and lovely daughters...). This is a
total youth anthem but the Video left us a bit confused at the end... Who got
the girl?
6. Something Different by Adekunle Gold (AG Baby)
Now this is a hit vibe. The story line has been over flogged (not too
different from Betty Butter) but afrobeat fans will surely enjoy having this
song on their playlist. The song is fun, the video is not boring, not super amazing either,
but of you love/have/had a crush on AG Baby, then this will be your vibe.
7. Jerusalema remix by Master KG and Burna boy.
The South African song was a hit, even with the unfamiliar language
and repetitive lines, we enjoyed it. Now, the remix with Burna boy is making
the song even more unforgettable. Have you seen the video? I hear it's out...

8. Away by Oxlade
DJs definitely love this song. The irony of running away with a guy in a
wrecked, old Beatle car in the music video is not lost on viewers but it makes a good
watch. The song is as danceable as any on the list and a total weekend vibe
.Oxlade is making impressions and chasing at the heels of WizKid. Can he catch
up? I guess we'll find out.
9. Beamer by Rema and Rvssian
'Bad boy' Rema drops bars and lines to remember. This afrobeat, big, bad boys' anthem is another weekend vibe to add to the playlist. The video shows off Rema's expensive tastes in cars, jewels and shirtless fashion, and the regular
parade of girls... Typical music video, interesting lyrics.
10. Of Lagos by Mayokun
The self acclaimed Mayor of Lagos is all vibes, dancehall and party in this
hit song. The title alone has birthed losts of new Instagram handles, slangs
and catchphrases.
Danceable, party song from the Mayor himself is what the doctor ordered for
your indoor, weekend vibe. And the video? A Lagos party. Something lots of
Lagosians miss terribly.
Just manage this playlist for the weekend huh?
You're welcome.
