Styling 101: Wardrobe essentials for men and women. Episode 1.

Fashion forward geng!

Fashion forward? Or did Billie predict the face mask being a daily accessory since 2019 Grammys?

Let's start with a facemask 😷.  Since that's 'essential no 1' in 2020.

By now, most people should have them handy so as not to forget when leaving the house in a rush. (Preferably In all bags and/or in the car)

Stay safe, stay trendy; @komolafedaniel_ says so. 😉

What kind of mask are you comfortable in? Do tell in the comment section.

Having acknowledged that, let's get on to the good stuff!

One of the things that the covid19 lockdown made me realise is the fact that we barely have, buy, or pay attention to lounge and sleep wears!

So, are you planning to change your wardrobe or maybe just add a few, new extras and dunno where to start?

Well, I hope this list helps you prioritize your urgent fashion needs.

1. Sleep wear:  Can range from a lacy or satin lingerie and robes, comfy Tshirts or PJs. They also include hair bonnets/nets, and eye masks.

Its popularly said that your 'birthday suit' is the best to sleep in, but it sometimes gets too cold (or crowded) to abide by that, and some people don't even subscribe to that rule. However, taking a shower and slipping into a proper sleep wear is probably one of the most satisfying treats you can give yourself before bed.
Don't just 'fall' into bed. Prepare for sleep.

They are easily swapped for 'lounge wear', but are really not meant to be worn outside a bedroom, but who cares about the rules? Right?

For the sake of style and class tho: THEY ARE NOT THE SAME,they are not meant for ladies or extremely rich people ONLY, and they aren't meant to be worn out of a bedroom. And....no, whatever you do, don't wear jeans to sleep... 😖 Thank you.

2. Lounge wear: As the name implies, you wear them to lounge; at home, but the average guy (or girl) slips on these clothes and is ready to step out and face the day. Nothing wrong with that (With a few exceptions tho, especially when they have to do with bathing), but do try to have a separate set for lounging, and no, not the old, slack or torn ones please.

Whatever you do, kindly leave the fluffy bathrobe, bathroom flip-flops and hair bonnets at home.

Lounge wears could come in matching sets, or sundresses (popularly worn as beachdress 🙄) or could be self styled from tank tops, big shirts or polos paired with shorts, pj pants or joggers. Choose your style.

Yes, they're for lounging, you can dress them up for outings too tho.

3. Casual wear: What you wear when the outing is not a 'serious' one. Often mistaken for lounge wear. See no 2 above. It can be dressed up or down. That's why we have a subgroup called the business casual.

Friyay wear maybe??

Must have casual clothing include: vintage, floral or patterned shirts or dresses, denims (jackets and pants) polos, roundnecks, turtlenecks, sweatshirts, varsity shirts, cardigan, biker/leather jackets, jeggings.

If casual is your go-to wear, You'll probably wear these items a lot. Keep a separate set if you have to. Make sure they're not doubling as your lounge or sleep wear. Stay classy.
*never to be caught unfresh.😎

4. Cooperate wear: aka; Official wear. This is probably the easiest look to style.  Growing up, we all saw someone we admired dressed cooperately. So as adults, styling cooperates just comes naturally. (Cept for ties and colors... Guys still struggle with that 😜)

Hint: Avoid the patterned and (or) brightly colored ones if you're not a fashion enthusiast.

Cooperate wear wardrobe should include; The classic white shirt, formal pants, Knee length skirt or 'cooperate dress', blazers and a complete suit.

5. Sport wear: As popular as this category is, and as much as we love sports, lots of people leave out sports wear when shopping, only to remember when they need it.

I.e church, school or work functions, unplanned trip to the gym or when wanting to take a quick run, or swim, wanting to brag about your football club.... Then you realize; oops, I don't have a Jersey....🤔 my guy, I fit borrow that your...

Guy: No. 🤗

Yes, sport wears can be stylish too.

when you get this sudden urge or invite to go swimming.... But no trunk.

Moral lesson: Have some sport wear in your wardrobe. They can save the day on some casual occasions. Be intentional about everything, including your style.

And its a wrap on this week's episode of Styling 101. Do leave a comment for me on the questions asked in this post. Thank you for reading.
