Let it be known that it is not Finished!

 This week has been one of the most devastating in Nigeria (especially Lagos) in recent times.

Up until this moment, I didn't know what to write... Well, one of my besties encouraged me not to leave today's post blank(shout out to her)... So here goes;

I spent a good part of Wednesday and Thursday crying. It felt like we'd been defeated and accepting defeat after all our hype and hard work was horrible. Even more horrific was watching live videos of our heroes who stood tall at #Lekkitoll on 20-10-20. It weakened the strongest of us.

What went wrong? And where do we go from here?

Peaceful #EndSars protests became bloodbaths, conspiracy theories sprung up, empty speeches were given by the political parties.

Hoodlums took to the streets to vandalize peoples' businesses, looting and carting away loads and loads of goods.

Palliatives were discovered in different states and seemed to be the only cheerful thing to happen to lots of citizens.

Well, other than massive halfhearted plans to leave the country.

After the tears and heartbreak of the last few days, we did find a way to make fun of the situation and stay cheerful.

I remain proud of this generation. Our strength has been tested, yet we laugh.... We indeed have what it takes to make our country better.

What now? We ask...

Where do we go from here?

1. Let's start by cleaning our cities.

The curfew in Lagos has been lifted from 8-6pm, please join a cleaning crew if you can, help clean your beautiful cities.

2. Let's sensitize ourselves.

We can't afford to give up now. Yes, we've been warned to back down from protests, but there's still a lot we can and should be doing.  United we stand, divided we fall. We have shown the world how united we can be when we set our minds to it, but one thing I realised is that our unity has to preached to the grassroots. Let's let the educated and uneducated understand our cause. Let's involve the old and young. Let's bring in the bus drivers and market women, children and teenagers, touts, thugs, and street urchins. If everyone is educated on our cause, there'll be fewer or no vandalism or tribalism.

3. Let's be well advised and open minded to unanimously choose our next set of leaders.

......Without prejudice of tribe, religion, selfish interests or all the other vices that riddle our current system, let's educate ourselves into a new era.

4. Let's get our voters card ready.

I know it seems a long way off, (2023 seems like forever right now...) but this is our long walk to freedom guys... This is the only way our voices truly would be heard... And the labor of of our fallen heroes will not be in vain.

5. Pray for Nigeria. Now more than ever before, our prayers should be intensified.

Regardless of your religion, Now is not the time to join them to say it is finished or this country is a joke, or anything else in that light. Rather, build up your faith in this country with your words and prayers. Not prayers built just on emotions but prayers built on the word of God. Prophesy only great things to our motherland. Abstain from placing curses (no matter how deserving) and planning revenge. God's got that covered 😉. Dear citizen; Pray. It'll make our walk easier and faster. And if you find it though to pray by yourself, join prayer groups. So many well meaning prayer and worship challenges have already begun. Make sure to join in and do something from your own corner.

Do you have any more suggestions on the way forward?

Kindly share with us in the comment section.

See you soon;

XoXo; RHD 💜💜💜

  1. With the look of things I doubt the protest will continue but I strongly believe that the only way we can perfect this change that we all are clamoring for is through the ballot boxes and I wish that this unity lasts till 2023 and beyond so that we can effect this change.

  2. 2023 might seem like a long time but it’s enough time to get prepared for the next election. It’s obvious our fathers never cared about their children
    It’s time we the children go all out and prove to the next generation that our fight wasn’t in vain..❤️... RIP to our fallen heroes 🕊

  3. Thanks for this... most importantly is getting to the "grassroots" because, no plan or strategy can work without them, they are the majority of the populace and if they don't understand what we are fighting (and why we are fighting) they would only end up been used (again) by the politicians for peanuts.

  4. We only need to channel our energy positively and we will get there.

  5. We have come too far to turn back. The people in authourity are doing all they can to disunite us but God will not let them have their way. All we need at the moment is to speak with one voice and mean the same thing. Let's not deviate from why we have started this protest in the first place. Let's not let hate ride our sense of reasoning and make us begin to spoil the good fight we have started. Just as you mentioned in your write up, we need to make people around us understand the reason for the protest and what they should and shouldn't do while protesting to enable us win this fight.
