Fashion moments, and things you probably didn't know about The Legendary Sound Sultan

Fans, friends, and well wishers....let's gather here to reminisce on the life and times of a well loved Legendary artiste. 💔

When we woke to the the sad news of the passing of our favorite millennial musician, Sound Sultan, we could only pray it wasn't true.

Mr Olanrewaju Fasasi (Sound Sultan) was a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, comedian, and recording artist. He was big on using his songs to speak against poverty, corruption, bad governance and societal ills in Nigeria.

The artiste who on May 12, 2021, was reported to be somewhere in the USA receiving chemotherapy as he was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in the throat, died July 11, 2021 at the age of 44 due to complications from the illness.

The Sultan of Nigerian airwaves knew how to make us laugh with his song titles and lyrics, while invoking deep thoughts about the situation of our country; Nigeria. News of his passing brought tears to the eyes of many who never even met him. We can only pray for strength, for those nearest and dearest to him, to come to terms with this heart-wrenching loss.

Here's 5 top things we'll always remember him for:

1. His deep sense of satirical humor:

Sound Sultan was not one to shy away from "unmentionable" topics. His first hit song in year 2000; Jangbajantis was filled with satirical lyrics about the political situation of the country. While we enjoyed the humour of the lyrics, the satire of the song still rings loud in our ears.

The "Ajo o dabile" singer got us nostalgic with his Motherland song. He used his lyrics to teach good character, making the right decisions and  reminds us of what matters the most; Home.

In 2011, he gave us Ole (Bushmeat) with lyrics: "One day bushmeat go catch the hunter". This song rang so true when protests started in Nigeria in 2020.

In 2013, he gave us Natural Something with lyrics like: "I no be Casanova but I like woman dem... I know you have a lover but e dey your mind..." This gives us some cheater cheater vibe.... We've heard that song before 🙄😉.

2. His fierce love for privacy: Let's start with his real name:  Olanrewaju Abdul-Ganiu Fasasi. If you're just a fan, not a colleague, I bet you didn't know his full name. The  Sound man was never given to drama. He put his life together in private, and put the craziness into his songs and music videos.

Did you know he was married? He's one of the few 2000s Nigerian artistes without the baby mama/sidechick/long list of girlfriends drama. It's tough for a passionate artiste to escape all that, but he did. Without a scratch. (At least publicly). We also would give a thumbs up to those around him for respecting his privacy. You'll rarely hear any "insider" dish out info on him. Whatever you read about Sound Sultan was most likely quoted from him, or guessed about him.

3. His love for his wife, family, and vice versa: In 2009, Sound Sultan married his long-term girlfriend Chichi Morah, now known as Farida Fasasi. They had three children. Now, will you see their names online? Most likely not😁. Anyway, there's a sweet video I saw of him singing with his children during the last Father's day. You can check it up on YouTube if you like. 😉

While we can only imagine how his family feels right now, our thoughts and prayers go out to them. 💔

4. His Millinery taste in fashion: He should have a second title of the hatter. Sound Sultan's outfit was never complete without a hat or a cap. It's his statement fashion piece you could always look out for, if it was street fashion or  the red carpet. As constant as his satirical comedy, is his hat, and we won't be forgetting how many classic looks he's given us.

5. His hit songs:

From Jangbajantis, to Ole, to Orobo, to Motherland, to Natural something... He always had a hit for us every time he entered the studio to record. What's your favorite Sound Sultan song/lyrics? I'll love to hear in the comment's section. 👇

While we may never understand why one of our favorites had to leave us so soon, we'll never forget the impact he had on our childhood (speaking for the 90s and millennial babies), and our nation Nigeria.

Dear Sound Sultan, we miss you! Rest in power!! 💪

XoXo; RHD💜💜💜
